From Spatial Design to Digital Design

A few years ago, Olga transitioned from a career in spatial design, which included architecture, urban planning, and interior design, to digital design. She is comfortable leading projects and designing for physical and digital spaces. The key skills she brings to the table not only transcend these two worlds but also provide her with a distinct advantage and a unique perspective when undertaking projects:

  • Olga's interdisciplinary collaboration skills are rooted in her diverse academic background, holding three master's degrees in Architecture, Interior Design, and International Management. Her professional journey in architecture and spatial strategy involved working alongside civil engineers, landscape architects, urban planners, and various other specialists. Today, in the digital design domain, she effectively collaborates with researchers, strategists, managers, designers, software engineers, and developers. Olga excels in bridging the gap between design teams and engineers at the intersection of complex technical knowledge, functionality, and beauty. She places high value on transparency, clear communication, and active participation in team environments, making her an adaptable and effective collaborator across multiple disciplines.

  • With a background in both tri-dimensional and two-dimensional design, Olga takes pride in crafting visually compelling narratives that captivate audiences and showcase intentional, thoughtful designs. Her cross-dimensional experience equips her with extensive knowledge of design tools and techniques for compelling visual storytelling. Having dedicated countless hours to technical documentation, Olga possesses a deep understanding of how subtle nuances can impact final outcomes. Her commitment to detail and intentional solutions sets her apart in creating visually striking and purposeful designs.

  • Olga's approach to design is characterized by both systematic and systemic thinking. Her ability to analyze and structure complex information systematically enables her to develop clear, efficient design processes. This approach ensures that each project is handled with meticulous care from start to finish. On the systemic side, Olga excels in understanding how various elements of a design project interconnect within the broader context. Her experience in spatial design has sharpened her ability to see the bigger picture, recognizing the impact of individual design choices on the overall system, be it in an architectural, urban, or digital space. This dual-thinking approach allows her to create designs that are not only aesthetically cohesive but also functionally integrated within the environment.

  • Olga's design philosophy places a strong emphasis on empathy, making it a core element of her creative process. She strives to deeply understand and address the end-users needs, desires, and experiences in her designs. Through active user research, Olga gathers data and insights that shape her approach, ensuring that her designs are tailored to the user's journey, whether in physical or digital spaces. She recognizes that at the core of every design is the human experience – from first impressions to achieving goals, navigating choices, and the lasting sentiments that influence whether a user will return. By focusing on these human elements, Olga ensures that her designs are functional and crafted to user needs, creating meaningful and memorable experiences.

  • Olga has honed a 'makers' approach' in her design career, emphasizing organization and readiness for feedback. She keeps her work transparent and accessible, inviting ongoing input from her teams and stakeholders to refine her designs. Additionally, Olga diligently documents her research and thought process, ensuring valuable insights are preserved, especially in dynamic projects. This approach not only streamlines her design process but also fosters collaboration, allows for rapid iteration & speeds up the creation of final deliverables at the project's end.

  • Olga's proficiency in rapid prototyping, testing, and iteration is a skill finely tuned through her architectural background. Architects are trained to navigate an intense iteration process, constantly exploring and learning through sketches, building models, 3d modeling, and other visual techniques. This experience has ingrained in her the ability to adapt quickly to changes and not get attached to any single idea, an essential mindset in the everchanging design world. Comfortable with presenting work in progress, Olga values the insights gained from feedback on unfinished work. Her ability to rapidly prototype, test, and iterate makes her adept at turning concepts into tangible designs efficiently and effectively.

  • Olga feels comfortable presenting work internally and with external stakeholders in in-person and virtual settings, whether in a meeting or a longer workshop. Skilled at simplifying complex, multifaceted ideas, she excels in crafting clear and engaging narratives, both visually and verbally. Whether detailing intricate concepts to her team or presenting strategic overviews to stakeholders, Olga strives to be consistently clear and audience-specific, making her an invaluable link between the design team, clients, and stakeholders.

  • Olga places high value on continuous learning, as demonstrated by her attainment of three master's degrees. A fast learner, she easily adapts to the ever-evolving landscape of design tools and methodologies. Her passion for learning extends to her professional life, where she enjoys research and constantly seeks new knowledge. This love for learning not only keeps her skills sharp but also fuels her innovative approach to design.
